children. >> tonight. oakland police say the city is a little safer. after nearly 20 violent crime suspects are rounded up in a series of raids. 24 high- risk search and arrest warrants were served across the bay area today.all part of a crime fighting plan called "operation ceasefire". the charges ranging from attempted murder, to assaultiing a police officer. tonight, police say 18 people are now behind bars. a number of weapons were also taken off the street. police say the main target today is trying to avert a gang war between two violent groups. the so- called 'money team' and 'case' gangs. today oakland police showed us how this gang was terrorizing citizens. we want to take a close look at this surveillance video. it shows two gang members who were arrested today.robbing a woman at gun-point. check it out. teacher aides. oakland unified could cut 65 administrators. and 11 non-tenured teachers. alum rock is giving out 87 preliminary notices -- 78 to teachers. antioch may cut 13 teachers. redwood city. 8 certified positions may be eliminated - including school nurses and counselors. and for fremont, san jose unified, walnut creek and palo alto unified -- those districts say *no pink slips have been sent out. some of the teachers receiving these notices are all too familiar with them. in fact, some have been receiving them for years. the next big deadline is may 15th. that's when school administrators will send out finalized pink slips. new tonight at 8-- an emotional vigil tonight for three victims of a deadly drunk driving crash in daly city. kron 4's alecia reid has reaction from grieved family members. new developments tonight -- the pain is too fresh this was at the location of the accident and people were extremely upset. >> i could not be comforted by should it be the one that died not my will never see my little girl or my little boy's the family is still grieving family is goin

. oakland's new police consultant. william bratton. outlined his plans for turning around the troubled department. he is a former police chief in los angeles. and he advocates some controversial policing methods. such as "stop and frisk" which his critics do not support. nonetheless, bratton says. he is the right person to fix oakland's crime problem. >> in the 20 years i served as chief of police. this is a fresh set of eyes looking into these problems. hopefully i will come off with some solutions. >> pam: new tonight at 8. kron 4's terisa estacio is live at a community meeting. where some residents are upset about bratton's proposed tactics. terisa? >> the meeting is going on that at oakland city hall as they are learning about bratton. they packed about hearing about the various components to reduce violent crime. community policing is the major parts. the major department will be restructured to set up with local police to apartments to do with murders. he says that crime is so bad that he fears for the safety of his and others'. that is what brought him to the meeting tonight. >>

: oakland police arrested a man who they say, broke into the oakland museum back in january, and stole a gold artifact worth nearly a million dollars. kron 4's alecia reid. spoke to police. who say, the suspect is the *same man responsible for burglarizing the museum. and stealing pistols and gold nuggets late last year. >> reporter: this is now returned to the oakland museum it was stolen in the month of january. the piece of history that was passed down from the gold rush era was returned to day. and in jail is 45 year-old suspect. a warrant was issued and picked up on sunday. they say that he is also responsible for breaking into the museum in november. stealing gold nuggets and a pistol. now the museum is a very cautious. >> we will take additional security precautions immediately after the november 1st burglary. we have been confident of our enhancement of security and yet again in the month of january. with round-the- clock security in calories. we also undertaken permanent enhancements to our security system and improvements. >> reporter: the museum wants to put the artefact bac

'll be doing some critical work on the new oakland airport connector kron 4's charles clifford shows us what it will mean for drivers. >> reporter: this is a google earth map. starting saturday morning, bart will begin installing new railways over instate 880...here... just west of hegenberger road. this is part of the ongoing work to complete the new oakland airport connector. in order to finish the work, crews will first need to shutdown the two lefthand lanes of north bound 880 starting at 11am on saturday morning. that closure will last all day on saturday. then from 1am until 6am on sunday morning, caltrans will completely shutdown all northbound lanes of 880 at hegenberger road. the southbound lanes will remain open. cars travelling north can detour around the closure by first exiting 880 at hegenberger road. then they will have to turn left onto edes avenue, cross over hegenberger and continue along coliseum way. they will then drive past oracle arena and the coliseum before merging back onto northbound 880 just past 66th avenue. now this weekend's closures, will be repeated the follo

in the search for a missing oakland woman. a spokesperson for the family of erica maska-leris says police have suspended their search. because they believe erica is dead - and may have committed suicide. she was last seen thursday morning on surveillance video outside an oakland bakery. her family has released a statement thanking the community and police for their help and support. no further details are being released.. >> it's been nearly one year since the disappearance of sierra lamar. the 15-year-old cheerleader from morgan hill was last seen march 16 last year. while on her way to school. her body has not been found - and the search continues. this man-- antolin garcia torres-- was arrested and charged with kidnapping and murdering her - but has yet to enter a formal plea. amid plans to commemorate the anniversary of her daughter's disappearance - sierra's mother talked to kron four's rob fladeboe. >> the tenacity of these volunteers is amazing. >> reporter: marlene lamar is not about to give up on sierra either but she admits the past year has been extremely difficult. >> the pain and

workers femmehappening right now. a 'first friday' event in oakland. venomlast month, a shooting broke out after the 'first friday' event ended. and one man was killed. been made. and the event iskron 4's j.r. stone joins us if live from oakland. officers with the santa cruz police department were back on duty today. following the murder of two of their own. on tuesday, detective sgt. loran "butch" baker and detective elizabeth butler were gunned down by jeremy goulet. the officers were investigating a misdemeanor branci-forte avenue. when the suspect opened fire, killing the two officers. goulet had a long history of sex- related assaults and arrests. goulet was later shot and killed by other officers. a memorial for the two police detectives will be held next thursday in santa cruz. meanwhile. the santa cruz sheriff's department is now goulet's potential acquaintences. this woman. terisa johnson. may have been with goulet earlier this year. authorities say, johnson is *not involved with the murders in any way. investigators want to speak to her. to get more information about goulet's jo

more were arrested near kern and roosevelt streets. the women are from sacramento. salinas. oakland. east palo alto. marin. and san francisco. and are all between the ages of 21 and 33 years old. police are asking for the public's help. in tracking down a friend of the gunman -- jeremy goulet who was behind the santa cruz shooting that killed two officers. investigators say, they received information that terisa johnson may have been with goulet earlier this year. police say, she is not involved in the killing of the two officers this week. in any way. they just want to speak with her to get any additional information on goulet's background. meanwhile -- the memorial service for the two fallen officers - detective elizabeth butler and sergent loran "butch" baker-- will be held. thursday, march seventh starting at eleven a-m. it will be held in san jose at the h-p pavilion. and a motorcade procession will happen prior to the memorial service. officers with the santa cruz police department are back on duty. following the killing this week of two of their own. >> vicki: the internation

continues after a deadly shooting and 10 hour standoff in oakland. the standoff started just after one this morning when police went to inspect a residence after two gunshot victims were hospitalized. police traced a potential suspect to a home on 25th avenue. the scene was cleared at about 11:30 a.m., according to police and they detained several people for questioning but at this time it is not clear if the shooting suspect is in custody. one of the shooting victims died, the other victim is in serious condition tonight. four people hurt in vallejo today when a pick up truck drove through a thrift store. one of those injured included the driver. the seriousness of the injured to the driver and other customers are not know. the cause of the crash is also investigation. a d-u-i and license checkpoint in santa rosa leads to multiple arrests. santa rosa police arrested five for driving under the influence. 17 were cited for driving without a license and four others for driving with a suspended license. plus - the verdict is in for two football players accused of raping a 16 year old and
